How the WSDL / SOAP Inspector works

The inspector parses WSDL 1.1 documents with the browser’s XML parser and walks the definitions: port types and operations, the input and output messages they reference, and the XSD complex and simple types embedded in the types section.

Enumerations declared with xs:restriction and xs:enumeration are listed value by value, which helps when generating client code or mapping legacy codes.

How to use the WSDL / SOAP Inspector in 3 steps

  1. Step 1

Pick an enterprise WSDL template or paste your own document.

  2. Step 2

Review the operations, messages, data types and enumeration tables.

  3. Step 3

Press Copy Full Schema to copy the complete WSDL source.

Frequently asked questions

What is a WSDL file?

WSDL (Web Services Description Language) is an XML document that describes a SOAP web service: its operations, message formats, data types and endpoint address.

Does the inspector call the SOAP service?

No. It only parses the WSDL you provide, locally in your browser. No requests are sent to the service endpoint.
