Rates are European Central Bank daily reference rates via Frankfurter, published around 16:00 CET on working days. They are indicative mid-market rates, not bank or card rates.

How the Currency Converter works

Rates are European Central Bank daily reference rates delivered by the Frankfurter API with US dollars as the base. Any pair is calculated as a cross rate through the dollar, so EUR → JPY uses the USD rates of both currencies.

If the rate service is unavailable, the converter shows a red warning and switches to a dated fallback table. Fallback rates are approximate and should not be used for transactions.

Formulas used

Cross rate
amount × rate(to) ÷ rate(from)Both rates quoted per 1 USD.

The ECB publishes reference rates once per working day at around 16:00 CET. Rates do not change on weekends or TARGET holidays.

Why is my bank’s rate different?

Banks and card providers add a margin to the mid-market reference rate. Use this converter as a benchmark to see how much margin you are being charged.
